Crossfit845 in Wappingers Falls, NY

Visiting family for the summer, I knew I wanted to get right back into Crossfit. And while I was able to workout the morning of 4th of July with a friend, at Crossfit Annandale, the hiatus of even the week and a half I’d taken between traveling and visiting friends in Washington, DC wasn’t something I’d enjoyed.

So after checking out a few in the area where I’d grown up in Wappingers Falls, NY, I decided on Crossfit845, just a few blocks from my family’s house.

I went over and spoke with Dave, and got a tour of the place. When I came back a few days later to formally start, it was right back into the grind.

And after taking it easy for a week and a half and certainly not eating, “clean” like I’d been before (for me, no sugar, no starchy carbs, no bread, grains, etc,) this first workout was a tough one. Wow. Everytime I indulge and don’t eat well, the next workout reminds me of why I watch what I eat. “Just finish” was the goal, even if it took me the whole class to do so.

Part A was:

Every Minute on the Minute (EMOM) for 10 minutes,
3 Power Cleans (135/95)
3 Front Squats (135/95)

Dave, the owner offered some great tips on improving my squat form. The weight is traditionally not a problem for me. Strength wise, I’m typically strong enough to just power through most WOD’s, and I can hold my own, even with some of the guys who have been crossfitting for quite a while.

It’s the endurance and lung capacity that gets me. And even though I’m light years ahead of where I was when I started cross fit two years ago, or even one year ago, there’s still a ways to go.

Whoo. This one took a while. One problem I acknowledge is that I’ll get too caught up in the moment and power through the first part of workouts. “Wow this is easy, I can do this…” But I don’t pace myself well enough and then I have to catch my breath for the duration. But after a lot of gasping for air, I did finish.

Dave was even nice enough to mix a supplement with some water for me and hand it over as I tried to come back to reality. (Someone passing out in your box is probably bad for business, heh)

I enjoyed Crossfit845 and am definitely going to enjoy working out there this summer. The trainers and other members I’ve met there seem like a great crowd, and while it’s going to be hard to forget my first love, Crossfit 515 in Grimes, Iowa, “Mrs. Right Now” for me, is Crossfit845.
