Practicing My Dance Moves for Carnival

I’m here finishing up the first full day in Brazil, right in the middle of Sao Paulo. Last night I had the chance to check out a group getting ready for Carneval, which gets into full swing later this week. After a makeshift parade down the street the group went into the closest dance club, (a sort of warehouse) and continued.

It was the loudest place I’ve ever been. I was at a Seattle Seahawk’s game, and while that place was loud, the “Samba School” I had a chance to participate in, is now the winner.

I took a very quick video on my cellphone as I walked in, but there’s no way to do the sheer volume of sound justice with a short shaky video shot on a cell phone.

The place was absolutely packed! They had the words to the song up on giant banners around the hall, though I’m told they sing the song over and over again countless times. I did my best to follow the hand gestures as quickly as possible.

I’ll post more on Brazil and Carneval later this week.
