To say I’m a fan of In n Out would be quite the understatement. I’ve admittedly got blinders on and they can do no wrong. The burgers are amazing, the prices are cheap and I’m just tremendously impressed with the professionalism of the chain and each store. I’m a fan all around. The running joke, at least in some parts of the country is to critique and compare between In N Out and Five Guys. To me there’s no comparison, it’s In N Out by a mile.
In N Out promotes its adherence to ingredients that are, “fresh and never frozen.” In fact I believe a store can’t be more than an eight hour drive from one of the meat plants. So for decades it’s been based only on the west coast. But a couple years ago they opened up a plant in Texas, so that meant lots more opportunities to grab a burger when traveling through the Lone Star State. And though I’ve been to Texas a couple of times in the past couple years, I have not gotten a chance to stop. It made a recent trip to Austin, Texas all the sweeter.
My #1 request when a friend and I arrived in town was to find the nearest In n Out.
When I’m traveling anywhere near In n Out Burger, I’ll usually make a few stops during the trip. For this “first stop” I went with my traditional order:
Double Double with Onions
Cheeseburger Animal Style, Extra Pickles
Double Double Plain (aka Meat, Cheese, Bun)
Fries well done, with cheese
Vanilla/Strawberry Shake
The secret of In n Out’s “secret menu” isn’t so secret, but if you’ve never been there or never dug in the internet, it’s fun to try out all the different combinations. Not everyone knows you can get your french fries cooked different ways. I’ve tried a bunch of the shake combos and I think the Villa/Strawberry mix is my new favorite.
A “review” of In N Out would be a misnomer as there are more than 100 branches and probably thousands of different meal permutations. But for me, and just so I can get a dig in at Five Guys, In N Out is the best burger chain hands down. Plus apparently they give out free hats, just if you ask for one. Technically they give them out to kids, but I mean come on, how could I refuse?

Hmm. I remember that I’ve been to Five Guys once, about three years ago. But I’ve never been to In N Out. Seems like something I need to try out!!

West coast area and Texas. You could be in Texas in 15 hours if you leave now.
This is absolutely correct. Nothing even comes close to being as good as In N Out.
