How I Sold My Old Iphone for Cash

I outlined in a previous post how I cut more than $80 a month from my cellphone bill, saving close to $1,000 a year, all the while keeping the same model phone, same service and same number.

I purchased a new phone from StraightTalk.com and now had my old iphone to do something with. Looking to recoup whatever I could, I thought about ebay or craigslist but didn’t want to go through the hassle of setting up an auction or going to meet people. I’ve run into people who’ve gone through similar situations. “Meh, it’s just an old ipod or phone, I’ll just keep it in a drawer or trash it.” No, don’t do that. That’s money just waiting to be claimed. If you don’t want to spend the time to sell it, consider that your time is valuable and allow someone else to sell it for you.

My friend Jeremy had bought and sold electronics as a side gig for a while and had some success with it. His operation was growing so he formed a business and began getting more customers His group, CellBreeze is similar to many of the other companies you’ll see that buy and sell electronics for cash. In fact most of these companies are pretty much the same bag, with slight variations on process and cash offered. Jeremy’s actually got a great story about, “Living Smart, Not Hard.”

Jeremy was working for a financial investment company and decided it wasn’t what he wanted to do at this point in his life. He quit and focused on buying and selling electronics full time. Now he makes more money than he was previously and gets to spend most of the day at home with his daughter. A pretty good trade if you ask me.

Hearing the urban legends about being careful of where you ship your iphone to, I knew there were many reputable ones but certainly shady ones to be avoided. Since I knew Jeremy and trusted him, there was no concern. Coupled with the fact that Jeremy offered me the best price, I shipped my phone off to him and got $200 for my phone, about $50-$75 more than I was being quoted at other sites. Since I received great service I have no problem recommending Jeremy’s operation. If you have an old phone to sell or if you end up switching your mobile phone carrier in order to save money, I’d highly recommend chatting with Jeremy and Cellbreeze. If you ask I bet he’ll even tell you about how he switched jobs to spend more time with his family.
